Cloudmaster Arrives in Mac OS X

The PMDG DC-6B Cloudmaster Base Package for X-Plane 10 is now available for Mac OS X.

The OS X version is sold as a separate product for either Windows or for Mac.

The PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster Base Package features an accurate cockpit, a realistic flight and engine model, including auto-leaning, caged throttles, complex engine starting, full propeller control, highly accurate simulations of the electrical, fuel and hydraulic systems, accurately displayed flight and engine performance data along with detailed manuals.

The package has been tested with X-Plane 10.45 for Mac OS X. Compatibility with different X-Plane versions will be updated as they are made available, and may require software updates depending upon changes made by Laminar Research.

Requena Arrives in Flight Simulator

Requena X, developed by Latinwings, is the first in a series of products that will cover four small airports in Spain.

The package replicates a busy airfield offering a variety of services such as a flying schools, which promise lots of fun for the virtual pilot. You can even learn to paraglide or fly classic aircraft. Another part of the scenery is a typical Catalonian village that conveys the charm of Spanish rural life.

This product was made for an air show held recently at Requena and parts of the proceeds will be donated to the organisers. It is compatible with FSX, FSX: Steam Edition and Prepar3D.

Photoreal Puerto Rico

MegaSceneryEarth has released scenery covering Puerto Rico in photorealistic detail.

The package features the latest version 3.0 scenery from MegaSceneryEarth, which captures the rich greens and hues of the rainforest and farmland with red/orange clay soil to the tropical white beaches.

The scenery covers the island of Puerto Rico including the eastern islands of Isla de Culebra and Vieques at a 0.59m/pix resolution with more than 700 miles of hand-etched tropical coastline complete with waves and semi-transparent tropical reefs. In addition, 24 default airports have been realigned and correctly placed.

A full set of PDF aeronautical charts for Puerto Rico including instrument approach charts, airport diagrams and terminal area charts for Puerto Rico are also included.

PMDG 777 Global FO Voice Set Out Now

The package, by FS2Crew, adds seven new voices to the PMDG 777, including North America, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Latin America, Italy, Asia and Scandinavia.

The current FS2Crew: PMDG 777 version has also been updated to 2.0 and is free of charge to existing FS2Crew: PMDG 777 customers. The update resolves audio system issues with 7.1 surround systems, adds touch & go functionality and removes the water rudder toggle key command to avoid a conflict with RAAS.

In addition the first officer will now turn off the centre fuel pumps in cruise as necessary, he will no longer set the seatbelts to AUTO at 10,000ft in case of turbulence – releasing the cabin crew is now your responsibility and the PDF manual has been updated.

Dangerously beatiful

Værøy is a small island in northern Norway, known for its unpredictable weather, long summer days and nights lit by the northern lights during the winter.

The airport is nestled at the bottom of a 450m cliff on the northern side of the island, an area known for rapidly changing winds and downdrafts. It operated between 1986 and 1990 when it was closed as half of the scheduled flights were cancelled due to the precarious wind conditions.

The package was produced by Aerosoft and is available for FSX and Prepar3D. The entire island is modelled in detail, including Værøy Airport (ENVY) and the newer heliport (ENVR). It also includes a custom Aurora Borealis effects creating a majestic atmosphere, especially during the dark winter months.

Canberra Upgraded

Just Flight has released Service Pack 3.2 for the Canberra PR9.

This new service pack provides several updates and fixes such as improved to engine start logic and the panel state are now automatically saved whenever a flight is saved and reloaded.

The generator warning lights and top to belly tank transfer system have also been fixed.

LaGuardia Updated

Imaginesim has released New York LaGuardia Airport for FSX.

The package has recreated LaGuardia Airport as it will be when construction is completed in 2021. It features five new terminal buildings with connecting bridges, custom shadows, night lighting, hand-placed autogen objects and hundreds of apron service vehicles.

The airport has been modelled using custom UltraHD textures with realistic weathering effects and ground markings, complete runway and taxiway signage and lighting. It is compatible animated SODE jetways as well as the next iteration of Aerosoft’s AES.

A configuration tool is also included for optimising the scenery for different computer specifications.

NavDataPro Charts Out Now

Aerosoft has announced that NavDataPro Charts is now available.

NavDataPro Charts compliments NavDataPro from Aerosoft, which updates the nav database in the flight management system (FMS). With the new offering, Aerosoft offers access to-up-to-date airport and enroute charts.

The charts are supplied by Lufthansa Systems and are used in real-world aviation by more than 180 airlines worldwide and are updated automatically on a monthly basis when a user logs on. The package also features a desktop client with a user interface to select, view and print charts.

A Quick Flight menu can be used to enter a departure, destination and alternate airport for a quick access to the airport charts. A kneeboard feature can also be used during a flight, to have all needed charts easily available. Coverage also includes high and low enroute charts.

The program is compatible with all Windows systems as well as MacOS and Linux.

MQ-4C Triton UAS demonstrates new capabilities with a P-8A Poseidon

NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – The Navy recently demonstrated two key capabilities for the Triton Unmanned Air System (UAS) program that will enhance future fleet operations.

During a flight test June 2, an MQ-4C Triton and P-8A Poseidon successfully exchanged full motion video for the first time inflight via a Common Data Link (CDL), marking another interoperability step for the program.

The test demonstrated Triton’s ability to track a target with its electro-optical/infrared camera to build situational awareness for a distant P-8 aircrew.

“In an operational environment, this would enable the P-8 aircrew to become familiar with a contact of interest and surrounding vessels well in advance of the aircraft’s arrival in station” said Cmdr Daniel Papp, Triton integrated program team lead.

The MQ-4C Triton’s ability to perform persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance within a range of 2,000 nautical miles will allow the P-8A aircraft to focus on their core missions.

Last week also marked the completion of Triton’s first heavy weight flight that will expand Triton’s estimated time on station significantly. Triton operated in the 20,000ft altitude band in the heavy weight configuration for the first time and completed all test objectives. A second heavy weight flight on June 14 had Triton operating in the 30,000ft altitude band.

“The heavy weight envelope expansion work will enable Triton to realize its long dwell capability and become the unblinking eye for the fleet,” Papp added.

Triton is designed to fly missions of up to 24 hours at altitudes over 10 miles high, allowing the system to monitor two million square miles of ocean and littoral areas at a time. Since its first flight in 2013, Triton has flown more than 455 flight hours. The Navy will continue testing Triton at Patuxent River to prepare for its first planned deployment in 2018.
