The US Navy looks set to procure V-22 Osprey tiltrotors to replace its C-2A Greyhound carrier on board delivery (COD) aircraft. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, Chief of Naval Operations ADM Jonathan Greenert, and Marine Corps Commandant Gen Joseph Dunford have signed a memo for the acquisition.
The Ospreys will be modified to HV-22 configuration for the COD mission.
USAFE assets to move to Germany
The USAF has announced that RAF Mildenhall is to close by the end of this decade. USAFE KC-135R tankers will move to bases in Germany, as will the Special Operations Group’s CV-22s and MC-130Js. RAF Lakenheath has been announced as the first USAFE F-35A base, and it will house two squadrons from 2020. It is now clear what the timescale is for the relocation of F-15C and F-15Es back to the USA.
