FOUR ARMÉE de l’Air (French Air Force) Mirage 2000-5Fs have been deployed to Siauliai Air Base, Lithuania, to take up leadership of the Baltic Air Policing (BAP) mission.
All are from Escadron de Chasse 1.2 ‘Cigognes’ at Base Aérienne 116 Luxeuil. The aircraft arrived on August 28 to replace the Força Aérea Portuguesa (FAP – Portuguese Air Force) F-16 contingent, which has undertaken the role for the last four months.
A ceremony to mark the change-over was held at Siauliai on August 31. This is the fifth time France has carried out the BAP mission, having previously deployed aircraft for the role in 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
