BAE Systems reveals flight test details

BAE Systems and the UK Ministry of Defence have spoken publicly for the first time about the hitherto classified flight trials of the Taranis remotely-piloted air system (RPAS).

The demonstrator, now wearing RAF roundel and serial ZZ250, made its maiden flight an an undisclosed location on 10 August 2013.

Taranis is a programme funded by the UK MoD and run across the British aerospace industry. The project is designed to explore future combat air systems out beyond 2030 and has been likened to the British Aerospace EAP project, which led to the Eurofighter Typhoon programme.
