Air Austral goes big with A380 order

Air Austral has ordered two Airbus A380s.

November 17: French-owned airline Air Austral, based in Saint Denis, La Réunion in the Indian Ocean has ordered two Airbus A380s in an 840-passenger single-class configuration. The aircraft will be operated on the high-density route from Roland Garros Airport in Sainte-Marie, La Réunion to Paris.

It is a welcome boost for the A380, sales of which have been stagnant in recent months. To date 20 are in service with four customers and these have accumulated over 82,000 revenue flight hours in 8,700 commercial flights. Orders for the aircraft now stand at 202 from 17 customers.
