ATR unveiled its new 600 series aircraft at a ceremony in Toulouse, France.

October 2: ATR, the regional airliner manufacturer formed by Alenia Aeronautica and EADS, unveiled its new 600 series aircraft at a ceremony in Toulouse, France.

Launched in October 2007, the new 600 series aircraft are updates to the older ATR 42 and 72 models featuring new engines, a ‘glass’ cockpit and new avionics. The prototype, an ATR 72-600, first flew on July 24 and is powered by new Pratt & Whitney 127M engines, which provide 5% more power, improving performance on short runways, in hot weather and on high altitude.

To date, ATR has received orders for 59 600-series aircraft (five ATR 42-600s and 54 ATR 72-600s). Certification of the aircraft will now be sought, involving some 200 flight test hours.
