September 8: Three men have been found guilty of plotting to blow up airliners, a UK court determined.
Abdulla Ahmed Ali, 28, Tanvir Hussain, 28, and Assad Sarwar, 29, were all convicted of conspiring to activate bombs disguised as drinks. The arrest of the three men in 2006 led to stringent new restrictions on liquids carried aboard aircraft at airports worldwide and was been described in court as “the most complex and daring British-based terrorist conspiracy in modern times”. The men were convicted through evidence obtained from email correspondence.
Five other men were found not guilty of conspiracy to murder.
