Air Côte D’Ivoire has become the first African carrier to select the Airbus A320neo after placing a firm order for two examples. The deal, which also includes two A320ceos, is also the Abidjan-based flag carrier’s first direct agreement with the European manufacturer.
Commenting on the order, the airline’s Chairman of the Board, General Abdoulaye Coulibaly, said: “With these new aircraft Air Côte d’Ivoire will position itself as a flagship airline in the region by offering its passengers the best on-board services. We will also improve our punctuality and reliability thanks to these latest-generation Airbus jets.”
John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers added: “We are very pleased to welcome Air Côte D’Ivoire as our first customer for the A320neo in Africa.
“This order will play a key role in the development of [the airline] with new routes to West and Central Africa.”
The carrier’s incoming Airbuses, which will be powered by CFM engines, will be configured with a two-class cabin layout. They will join Air Côte D’Ivoire’s existing fleet of second-hand examples consisting of four A319s and a single A320.
