Japan Airlines subsidiary J-AIR has introduced its first Embraer 190 into revenue service. The aircraft, JA241J (c/n 19000708), operated its maiden flight from Osaka/Itami to Kagoshima on May 10 and is the first of its kind in the country.

“The E-Jets have proven their ability to help airlines maximise yield, and sustainably enter new markets, as in the case of Japan Airlines,” Paulo Cesar Silva, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation remarked. “The E190 configured with 95 seats complements J-AIR’s E170 operations. The extra capacity offered also reflects the steady growth of the domestic market. The carrier’s president Tetsuya Onuki added: “We are honoured to receive the first E190 in Japan. The combination of the existing E170s and new E190s in our fleet will give us greater flexibility to match our products and services to customer needs. We are confident the aircraft, with our new cabin interior and the addition of Class J service, will deliver a refreshing and comfortable in-flight experience to customers.”
The arrival of J-AIR’s first E190 increased the total E-Jet fleet operating in Japan to 28 examples. This includes 17 of the smaller E170s in service with the carrier, along with three E170s and seven E175s flying with Fuji Dream Airlines.
