Typhoons from RAF Leuchars set for Malaysia

Typhoon aircraft from 1 (Fighter) Squadron (1(F) Sqn) are set to fly to Malaysia next month to take part in Exercise Bersama Shield alongside the Defence forces of the UK’s allies in the region.

This will be the second time in 18 months that a detachment of multi-role Typhoon aircraft based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland will make the 7,000 mile trip to Malaysia, following the highly successful participation of 6 Sqn in Exercise Bersama Lima in 2011.

Bersama Shield will be the second overseas exercise for 1(F) Sqn since the squadron re-formed at RAF Leuchars in September 2012, following on from Ex Shaheen Star which took place in the United Arab Emirates in January.

Additionally, the detachment of 1 (F) Sqn Typhoons will enable Flight Lieutenant Jamie Norris, the RAF Typhoon Display Pilot for 2013 to undertake his first public display flights at the Langkawi Air Show.
