Airbus A330-200F flies

Airbus’s latest freighter, the A330-200F, has made its first flight from the company’s factory at Toulouse.

November 5: Airbus’s latest freighter, the A330-200F, made its first flight from the company’s factory at Toulouse, France, commencing a 180-hour flight test and certification programme.

The A330-200F has 67 firm orders with nine customers, the first of which will be Etihad Crystal Cargo in the summer of 2010. Airbus predicts the need for over 3,400 freighters in the next 20 years, 1,600 of which will be mid-sized freighters such as the A330.

The aircraft can carry more than 64 metric tonnes over 4,000 nautical miles (7,400km), or more than 69 metric tonnes up to 3,200 nautical miles (5,930km) non-stop.

AIR International magazine will carry more detail on this story in the December issue.
