Boeing’s 747-8 delayed

October 14: Aviation Week reports that Boeing has delayed the first flight of its 747-8 Freighter into early 2010, but is pressing ahead with ground vibration tests on RC501, the first 747-8.

The report says that Boeing has pushed back the first flight from early December because of ‘fit-up issues’ caused by different tolerances between the structure designed with older tools and that using newer tools.

The race is now on within Boeing to see which new airliner flies first, the 747-8 or 787 Dreamliner, both currently expected to make initial flights in January.
