At Heathrow, the airport had its third busiest month on record and its best July since 2006. Across the company’s portfolio of airports, 14.5 million passengers passed through, down just over 2% compared to July 2008 but less than the decline seen in the previous two months. There was a return to growth of just over 1% in European scheduled traffic and nearly 5% in long-haul traffic, although UK domestic traffic was nearly 5% lower and European charters fell by just under 19%.
Although the number of air transport movements was down by 5%, it was offset by increased passenger yield, with the number of passengers per plane averaging 162, the highest figure recorded to date.
