Two Shanghai-based airlines received Airbus aircraft recently.
July 17: Two Shanghai-based airlines received Airbus aircraft recently. On July 16 Juneyao Airlines took delivery of its first purchased A320 during a ceremony at Airbus’ facility in Toulouse, France – the airline currently operates ten leased Airbus aircraft, two A319s and eight A320s, with ten more A320s due to join the fleet by the end of 2012. This first purchased aircraft is one of six ordered in June 2007 and will accommodate 158 passengers in a two-class configuration, including eight first class seats.
On July 17, Shanghai Airlines took delivery of its first ever Airbus aircraft, an A321. It is the first of ten ordered by the Shanghai-based carrier. “After 20 years of fast, steady and all-round development, Shanghai Airlines is becoming an international airline based in the regional hub of Shanghai. The introduction of the highly reliable and efficient Airbus A320 Family aircraft will help Shanghai Airlines to expand its new base, develop domestic routes network and increase capacity in order to meet increasing passenger demand,” said Zhou Chi, Chairman of Shanghai Airlines.
The carrier’s first A321 is fitted in an all-new two-class configuration with 178 seats (166 seats in Economy, 12 in Business Class). The aircraft will be used initially on domestic routes followed in the future by regional routes including Japan and Korea.
Shanghai Airlines was set up in 1985 and is a member of the Star Alliance. It operates 68 aircraft on more than 170 passenger and freighter routes around the world.
