Caspian Tu-154M crashes killing 168

A Tu-154M belonging to Caspian Airlines crashed shortly after take-off from Tehran on July 16, killing all 156 passengers and 12 crew.

July 16: Yesterday morning a Tu-154M belonging to Caspian Airlines crashed shortly after take-off from Tehran, killing all 156 passengers and 12 crew.

The plane, EP-CPG, was on its way to Yerevan in Armenia. According to the Flight Safety Foundation’s Aviation Safety Network (FSFASN), the aircraft “exploded on impact and disintegrated.” It is believed that two of the three flight data recorders have been recovered.

This is thought to be the 62nd Tupolev 154 damaged beyond repair as result of an accident from a total of 919 constructed. EP-CPG first flew in 1987 according to FSFASN and Caspian Airlines operates three other Tu-154s.
