Gloomy cargo forecast from AEA

July 13: The Association of European Airlines (AEA) released traffic and capacity data for May 2009, along with a projection for June. It made for particularly gloomy reading for cargo operators, with “no relief in sight in the airfreight market.”

The report says passenger traffic was down 8.3% in May, “the worst result of the downturn to date,” and that “May was another catastrophic month for airfreight” with a near 20% downturn.

In its forecast for June, the AEA says results will be “just slightly less gloomy.”
