Brazilian Navy arrives at A330 crash scene

June 4: Brazil’s defence ministry has confirmed that a navy vessel has arrived at the assumed crash location of Air France Flight 447, an Airbus A330-203 operating a scheduled international passenger flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, which disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean at approximately 0200 GMT.

According to the airline 216 passengers and 12 crew members were on board. A330 F-GZCP was delivered to Air France from the production line in April 2005 and had accumulated approximately 18,800 flight hours in some 2,500 flights. Press reports suggest that the aircraft flew through a thunderstorm complex shortly before contact was lost.
