Additional ATRs for Aeromar

Mexican regional carrier Aeromar has signed a firm purchase order for eight ATR turboprops.

The deal consists of six ATR 72-600s and a pair of ATR 42-600s, with the former configured with 72 seats and the latter capable of carrying 48 passengers.  Both feature cabins designed by Italian firm Giugiaro, including thinner and lighter seats, LED lighting and new overhead bins with 30% additional storage space compared with older ATR designs.

Andrés Fabre, CEO of Aeromar, said: “The ATR aircraft represent the most cost-effective solution for our short-haul network.  With a renewed fleet based upon the ATR -600s, our passengers will experience the most modern standards of comfort and service.  We are very pleased to further develop this longstanding and highly successful partnership with ATR.  We both share a commitment to safety and the passion for technology with an environmental-friendly conscience.”

Tom Anderson, Senior Vice President Commercial and Customer Support of ATR, added: “For almost 30 years Aeromar has been providing an essential service across Mexico, linking communities and contributing to the development of regional economies.  We are proud that the progressive introduction of the new and eco-efficient ATR -600s will enable the airline to continue delivering its passengers the highest quality of service on each and every flight.”

Aeromar expects to take delivery of the first aircraft from this order, which also includes options for six additional ATR 72s, in December.

The new turboprops will be used to replace the airline’s current fleet of nine ATR 42-500s, four ATR 42-300s and two ATR 72-600s.  They will also enable Aeromar to increase passenger capacity on a number of its main routes as well as add new connections to its regional network.
