First 777 for Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines has received the first of two Boeing 777-300ERs.

November 18: Philippine Airlines (PAL) received the first of two Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft it has leased from US-based company GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).

The delivery flight also served as a humanitarian mission bringing in aid to people devastated by the massive floods from Typhoon Ketsana. With the help of AmeriCares, Humanitarian International Services Group and Kids Against Hunger, nearly 18,000lbs of medical supplies and packaged meals were loaded into the cargo hold of the 777-300ER and taken to the capital, Manila. Jaime J Bautista, PAL President, said he was glad to be able to personally deliver the aid to the Philippines. “The airlift of relief goods is inherent to our mandate as the Philippines’ flag carrier,” he said.

The airline is also awaiting delivery of four more 777-300ERs direct from Boeing that it ordered in 2007.
